Prayer of St. Francis At This Cross

San Damiano Cross

When I went to Basilica Di Santa Chiara I was deeply moved not only by being in the presence of the San Damiano Cross (the cross that talked back to Saint Francis) but also the prayer that St. Francis used as he fervently prayed to the Lord. I went home, that first day after my visit, and looked online for a copy of the translation of the prayer. I remembered bits of pieces of the one that is posted below the cross, but although I looked through pages of translations, none of them matched the one that was presented at the cross itself! Although the translations were close, they were not the words of St. Francis.

I went back to the basilica, and kneeled at the front pew, right below the cross where the prayer was written. Tourists came and went and I continued to study the prayer, to memorize each exact word. Etching the grooves in my brain to carry his words with me no matter where I went.

I have included the prayer below, as it is written in Basilica Di Santa Chiara.

Prayer of St. Francis At This Cross

All-Highest, Glorious God

Cast your Light into the darkness of my heart.

Give me right faith, firm hope, perfect charity and profound humility,

with wisdom and perception,

Oh Lord, so that I may do

what is truly your holy will.

Amen.

A rare natural phenomenon turns one of Austria’s most beautiful hiking trails into a 10 meter-deep lake, for half the year.
Located at the foot of the Hochschwab Mountains, in Tragoess, Styria, Green Lake is one of the most bizarre natural phenomena in the world. During the cold winter months, this place is almost completely dry, and used as a country park where hikers love to come and spend some time away from urban chaos. But as soon as temperatures rise, the snow and ice covering the mountaintops begin to melt, and the water pours down, filling the basin below with crystal-clear water.
Water levels go from one-two meters at most, to over 10 meters, in the early summer. The waters of Green Lake are highest in June, when this extraordinary place is invaded by divers, curious to see what a mountain park looks like underwater. Fish swimming over wooden benches, a grass-covered bottom, trees, roads, roads and even bridges create a surreal setting that feels like it belongs on dry ground. That’s because for half of the year, that’s exactly where it’s at.

STORY IDEAS OR PAST LIFE MEMORIES? (Writing Process, Writer’s Block, Inspiration)

The past few years I have had story ideas that are more of a flash in a pan than a well rounded concept you can sink your writing teeth into. Like those fleeting images as you are being caroused out of a dream state by an obnoxious alarm, or companion. These images evoke deep emotions. Like “I have done that” or “I have been there.” I wonder if it is dormant pastlife experiences being stirred. It definitely feels like an ancient memory…one that I can’t quite fully recall. Like when you see a face in a bar, and you know you better remember who they are before they see you because you aren’t sure if they will give you a hug or a slap. Lately I have been having images of an American? European? living in the Himalayas in the late 1800’s. However, that is where the inspiration ends. I choose to break through the wall, to break down the amnesia, to remember this dream, pastlife, inspiration, etc. I know that if I am able to do this I will be able to complete a short story. Not only complete it, but write the entire piece in the “flow.”
